Vivi is a fictional universe app envisioned for a future sci-fi television series, crafted to foster connections among people of varied backgrounds and life experiences. Within this fictional world, it functions as a renowned platform for life-sharing, allowing users to exchange weeks of their lives and fully immerse themselves in their host's daily experiences. Through active participation, users accumulate experience points, unlocking further opportunities for engagement. Rooted in the Latin term for "to live," Vivi epitomizes the ethos of "sharing equals living," encapsulating its central principle.
We had the freedom to refine all the details and features, though the purpose of the app was predefined in the brief. We rebranded the app, experimented with color schemes, and innovated with iconography, aiming to seamlessly blend science fiction and technology with human nature and biology.
For this project, our team undertook thorough research. We employed interviews to capture public sentiment, conducted brainstorming sessions to explore potential scenarios, and scrutinized numerous case studies to ascertain how existing community-engagement apps instilled trust and safety among their users. We conducted a meticulous analysis of tools and features that effectively instilled confidence in users, seamlessly incorporating them into our design.
I curated the aesthetic of the app, aligning it with both the project brief and our overarching vision. Envisioning a future where curiosity about others thrives, I infused the design with a cyberpunk aesthetic, featuring a vibrant color palette and high-contrast elements for enhanced clarity. Our iconography blended futuristic elements with human touches, reflected in handcrafted illustrations for each category, conveying the essence of their respective themes.
Employing lo-fi wireframes, we meticulously structured the interaction of our features. We prioritized the visibility and accessibility of pivotal elements. A pivotal feature was the "Categories" page, facilitating user exploration of five distinct types of live content: Knowledge, Perspective, Excitement, Travel, and People. Each category was symbolized by a bespoke line art icon representing a bodily sense or limb, fostering familiarity and welcoming users, while underscoring the core emphasis on human connection inherent to the app's ethos.
Balancing freedom and constraints: We discovered the importance of creative freedom within predefined project parameters.
Research-driven design: Thorough research informed effective design decisions and enhanced user understanding.
Prioritizing user experience: Emphasizing user-centric design and symbolism improved engagement and satisfaction.
